Walks nearby – autumn colours at Castle Drogo

There’s nothing more self nourishing than an autumn walk when some of the crunchy leaves are underfoot and the remainder still on the trees. Resplendent in their fulfilled     hues of golden reds. This autumn has been particularly good in the South West of England, it always feels like we are giving ourselves a present, filling our reserves for the winter to come.

The valley from Castle Drogo from west to east to the village pub at  Drewsteignton is now part of the Woodlands Trust. It is full of wonderful majestic Oaks, Beech and lovely Mountain Ash, heavy with bright red berries. It is a good hours walk with the prize at the end, home made soup and a pint for lunch at The Drewe Arms, yum, followed by the joyous hike back towards the lowering sun to cancel out any guilt. Happy dogs, happy people.
